Abidin Dino started drawing and painting at a young age and as a child he lived in Switzerland and France. After his return, Dino continued his education at the American high school Robert College of Istanbul, but dropped out to devote himself to painting and writing. His articles and cartoons were soon being published in newspapers and magazines. He founded the “D Group” at the age 20 and the “Liman Group” at 26. He was invited to Soviet Union to work with Soviet directors at Lenfil Studios as a scenery designer and assistant director. He moved to Paris in 1937 to stay there for two years. There, he worked with Gertrude Stein and designed the decor of an opera. During World War II, he was exiled to Anatolia in 1941 due to his treatment of political subjects in his drawings. These years were artistically productive for him. In 1951 he was allowed to leave the country, so he first went to Rome, then in 1952 he settled in Paris. He entered Picasso’s atelier in Valluaris through his friend Tristan Tzara where he worked for a short period of time. During the fifty years that followed his first solo exhibition at Galerie Klébér, Paris in 1955, his works were displayed in a number of cities, among them are New York, Moscow, Amsterdam, Athens, Prague, Zurich, Milan, Rome and Paris. Dino’s paintings were also represented in the Musée de l’Art Moderne de la Ville collection in Paris. In 1979, he became the honorary chairman of the French Association of Plastic Arts (UNAP). His first exhibition in Turkey was held in 1964 at Gallery 1 in Istanbul. His solo exhibitions continued in Ankara, İzmir and İstanbul and in addition to countless group exhibitions.
