How did your works emerge from “Patterns” series that you will show in Printed’16 ?

I started to work on this series in 2008. In the ‘New Lanscapes’ series which includes my panoramic landscape re-creations by digital interventions, I was searching for the representation of photograph to the reality and ‘Patterns’ series became the next step of this. Working on these series started with my interest to symmetry, perfection of symmetry, its representation of aesthetic and the idea of creation of a new thing by shivering the photographs. I have a fondness for wallpapers, mosaic and design. At the same time, ‘Patterns’ questions use of the photograph for different purposes and the aims of discipline in a period which I take millions of photos in a day.

It is quite appropriate to exhibit ‘Patterns’ as a wallpaper when you think about the series. How did this idea come into being? Do you think showing the work this way gives it a different meaning?

While creating the works, I take the size of tile (20 x 20cm) as reference. I always wanted to see how it would be if these works cover a wall or a whole room. Printed’16 was a good opportunity to test this. I think I will get an answer after seeing how the piece will look like I imagined when I see it at the show.

What kind of projects will you be working on in near future?

I will participate in MAWA (Mentoring Artists For Women’s Art) Guest Artist Programme in Canada this July. For a month I will work on a photography archive project that I have had in my mind for at least two years. I am also planning a new series that I can do as photocollages. Now, I am busy with the preps of this project.
