SENKRON ‘Synchronized Video Exhibitions’ meets the audience in coordination with Mixer, Bilsart, and Versus Art Project between April 15 and 30, 2022. Gathering art institutions, artists, curators, and art professionals from different cities in Turkey with a focus on video art, SENKRON is a comprehensive event that celebrates video art through exhibitions/events/speeches and screenings. Upon Mixer’s invitation, Ozan Atalan and Ekmel Ertan’s exhibition YOLO meets the audience as a new video creation shaped by both of their ideas and creative processes.

YOLO (You Only Live Once) is a video installation co-created by Ozan Atalan and Ekmel Ertan as a response to the environment of biological, economic, political, and psychological insecurity and crisis in which we live. YOLO starts off from the idea that the life we live has turned into a simulation that started with our socialization, is based on consensus, and cannot be interfered with by us. Within the installation, we come close to noticing this simulated environment, represented by the amusement park, only in moments of visibility due to glitches. Something isn’t right. In our pursuit of happiness, we seek help from connecting our bodies to the trans-digital age with more prosthetics and try to adhere our bodies to its instructions in life. The gap between the duality of body and mind is growing. Despite an hysterical effort to have fun within a dysfunctional simulation, our minds cannot convince our bodies. Within the scope of the exhibition, the word YOLO, one of the linguistic products of modern life, takes on a new meaning that criticizes utilitarian happiness that is detached from reality.

The exhibition YOLO can be viewed at the Mixer projection room as part of SENKRON ‘Synchronized Video Exhibitions’ from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., between April 15 and May 28

About the SENKRON ‘Synchronized Video Exhibitions’

Held under the leadership of Mixer, Bilsart, and Versus Art Project thanks to the diligence and effort of participating organizations from around Turkey, especially Istanbul, SENKRON not only makes video art visible in various spaces, but also enables the audience to follow the event at home by streaming the speeches of artists, curators, and collectors that shed light on the production of video works. With the intent of creating an archive space for video art, SENKRON aims to create accessible resources for the future by archiving annual programs/events/screenings on its website.
